On November 30th, Meituan, together with the China Hotel Association, China Institute of Standardization and other units, jointly formulated the "Green Takeout Service Specification" (GB/T 43285-2023) national standard and released it for implementation (hereinafter referred to as the specification). The regulations mainly cover four aspects: food supply, food delivery packaging, delivery efficiency, and green promotion, aiming to guide food delivery enterprises to enhance environmental awareness, standardize food delivery service processes, and promote the development of green food delivery.
In terms of food delivery packaging and material usage, it is regulated that food delivery enterprises should choose packaging that is less harmful to human health and the ecological environment, and consumes less resources and energy, while meeting the packaging functional requirements. It is reported that Meituan Qingshan Plan released the "Guidelines for Reducing Food and Beverage Takeout Packaging" in August this year, which proposed the definition, principles, and classification methods for reducing food and beverage takeaway packaging, and provided targeted answers to questions such as "what" and "how" to reduce food and beverage packaging, providing practical and feasible reduction operation guidelines for food and beverage businesses.
In terms of green food delivery display, it is regulated that food delivery service enterprises and platforms should strengthen the use of disposable tableware and provide appropriate ordering prompts to consumers, advocate reducing the use of disposable tableware to consumers, and promote small dishes. Meituan Waimai not only collaborates with businesses to optimize the supply of "small portion dishes" and other food products, but also reminds consumers throughout the entire ordering process to "order in moderation" and earn carbon points by ordering small portion dishes, promoting joint efforts between catering businesses and consumers to reduce food waste.
